Wendy Sabine
A lifelong love of the natural world and my initial training in aspects of medical laboratory sciences have somehow combined and conspired to lead me into the world of miniature painting. From microscopy to miniatures! I have painted wildlife and landscapes for many years, and first exhibited my works in the 1960s. Since then, painting has gradually come more and more to the fore, and I became a full time artist 15 years ago. Inspiration continues to come from the world of nature, but it is equally pleasurable to see how people respond to the paintings they have commissioned.

Awards:
Society of Miniaturists award for the best group of miniatures
Society of Limners Exhibition: highly commended (2005, 2006)
Commissions: The vast majority of my work is painted to commission and a list of individual items and subjects would fill several pages! Those non-commissioned items that are produced are used to serve as exemplars and for potential clients to judge the types of piece available and to see the effects of painting on different gemstone base media. Recent commissions include ones from Italy and Holland as well as those from across Scotland and England and are from private collectors as well as galleries and silversmiths. Commissions are currently underway for paintings on silver set agate and onyx jewellery and on agate slices (as well as a number of traditional portrait paintings).

Commissioning Procedure
As each piece of jewellery is unique, both in terms of the shape, pattern and setting of the gemstone and the miniature painting it supports, so are the requirements of the individual placing the commission. I always like to discuss the size, shape and form of the finished piece, the medium to be used and the exact nature of the image required. Pendants, brooches, cufflinks and earrings can all be considered. Where the subject is “general” as opposed to one that has specific characteristics, I have a wealth of resource material on which to base the painting. With specific subjects – your own cat/dog/horse/falcon, etc – paintings can be completed from clear photographs. Normally, once the painting is nearing completion, a copy can be sent so that final touches can then be added as requested by the client.
Pricing Policy
Pricing is dependent on the dimensions of the silver set gemstone, and thus the size of the image to be painted. All items painted to commission are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity which is signed, numbered and dated. The items carry a lifetime guarantee (but please don’t wear them in the shower!).
