Maker's Statement:
My work is of course about many issues but firstly it has to perform and work well. I want it to be comfortable to use and easy to maintain. The pieces should be visually intriguing but always balanced. I dont think I have a style; my response to a particular commission can be triggered by factors relating to a specific environment or comment from a client.
I am fascinated by the way things open. A handle is seldom simply applied. The method of entry into a drawer or even a garden can be the starting point for a piece of work to develop. Then there are edges, particularly along dining tables good for feeling as well as looking at whilst eating.
I work with timber and other materials as appropriate and produce work for interiors and outside public arts projects.
Studio visits are welcome.
Commissioning Procedure
The first point of contact from a potential client will be from having seen my portfolio or previous work in-situ. The starting point for discussing a new commission will nearly always be with reference to previous piece(s) of work.
A visit to the clients premises starts the development of a brief including initial discussion about possible materials, costs and delivery schedule.
A design will be developed and presented either as a drawing or model. A follow up discussion (either at clients premises or mine) gives the opportunity for comment regarding the proposal with any alterations and cost implications agreed.
Pricing Policy
The price will include design work and making. Visits outside England to be charged at cost.
From £1000 for a bench
£9000 for a chest of drawers
£5-20,000 for dining tables.
