In 2000 have decided to move to UK in order to learn more about English antique furniture. In 2001 have joined Diploma course at West Dean College, West Sussex. In 2002 have successfully completed Diploma course and joined the MA course at Buckingham Chilterns University College, High Wycombe. In 2003 has been successfully graduated and granted a title of Master of Art in Conservation and Restoration. In 2004 has moved to Belgium, Leuven, with family. From 2004 till 2007 has been extensively studied traditional water gilding and silvering. Follow methods and techniques that were used traditionally in the past. This brings to Yuri’s work true originality and unmistakable uniqueness in quality. The aim in designing & making of a new piece of furniture or other interior object is to create a complete stylistic ensemble where the esthetical appearance and practical use of an item would bring pleasure and a joy to its owners. Stylistically Yuri prefers to look in to the past for his inspiration classical Greece, Egypt, medieval period, Renaissance, Queen Ann, Chippendale, Neoclassical and Georgian periods. To create a perfect combination of already existed but well forgotten styles and elements. Applications for apprentices are welcome. Studio visits are welcome.   Commissioning Procedure Preferably to have a first meeting with a client where would be possible to discuss a future project at least in brief or if possible in detail – to understand clients wish and learn some specifications (for example stylistic surroundings, if a future item has too feet in a particular style, or some elements need to be added a monogram, coat of arms, etc). Than an accurate drawing would be provided in color (if necessary), including plan, side view and full view from an angle. Together with an estimation of required material and time frame. Preferably during the second meeting where Yuri can explain and answer some possible questions in person. If the drawing and the estimation are accepted then prepayment would be asked from a client in amount of 20% from the total estimated amount including VAT. After the required sum has been received by the maker the work will begun. A client is very welcome to visit Yuri’s workshop-studio during the process and see the progress on his or her object. Where warning in advance from a client about planning visit would be very much appreciated. As soon as a commissioned object is in complete a client would be informed and asked to assess and examine the final result. After the work is accepted by the commissioner the rest of the payment would be asked to be paid in full and the delivery would be arranged. If an item could fit in a car the delivery could be done by Yuri Karpov in person. If the dimensions are higher than a special delivery would be arranged. The cost of the delivery and insurance expenses is a client’s responsibility. Pricing Policy Due to extraordinarity and uniqness of every project the price is normally based on the amount of working hours (including a drawing) and difficulty of work. Materials, traveling expenses (to meet a client once or several times), delivery, insurance during delivery and any other extra expenses under a client’s responsibility. A price for a working hour is £77 (17.5% VAT included). The material that could be used for a future commission is any type of wood available on the market today including saw cut and sliced veneer. All required alcohol based lacquers and polishes are already premade or will be made by Yuri Karpov personally. Yuri does not use any already made and ready to use lacquers made by the manufacturers. Waxes some already premade by Yuri some made by manufacturers. Gold leaf, silver leaf is available in wide range of different carats and colors. Glues are mainly rabbit skin, hide and sturgeon (fish glue). Rear materials such as ivory, mammoth, tauter shell, etc. could be found upon request.
