Maker's Statement:
Karen Lawrence works molten glass from the furnace, drawing it out into fine threads or plunging it into cold water causing it to fragment into tiny granules. Her designs are built up from these elements. The glass is formed into three dimensional structures, architectural panels and installations and cast in a kiln.
"My work is inspired by natural phenomena, such as geological formations,
fossilised structures and the arctic ice floes of the polar landscape."
Studio visits are welcome.
Commissioning Procedure
Individual pieces for both interior and exterior use may be commissioned. These often involve lighting and mixed media. It is usual for Karen to work with her clients to arrive at the finished
design through a process of discussion, working drawings and samples.
Karen is happy to travel to view potential sites and clients may visit the studio by appointment.
Pricing Policy
Pricing is dependent on the nature and complexity of the work.
On large scale work this is usually achieved through a series of instalment payments made throughout the period of the making of the piece. Dates for these payments and for the delivery of the work being set at the outset of the commission.
Smaller individual pieces are available with prices starting from £280.
