Sebastian Buescher

I consider myself to be a culturally versatile person. I have lived in several different countries up until now, including Germany, Holland, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and England. My work is similarly versatile due to my many interests and inspirations. I like art and craft because it enables me to express myself in shape and form, colour and meaning. I believe that I am an open person and am here to learn. The world is my teacher.

Maker's Statement:
My work is an expression of myself, and the complex character that I am. Everything that exists in my mind has a potential to exist in my work. I do not believe in one material or in one simple straight to the point style. My style is about not having a well-defined style. I look at any material in any given place and I see an incredible potential. This is a way of thinking which I have acquired in the past year, which offers me an insight into a world of opportunity and possibility for everything. Everything is a big word, and I am aware of that, but that is exactly what I feel. I believe that my work is about decoration, expression and enjoyment. These characteristics work together for me, providing me with meaningful pieces that are very much about aesthetic and having fun. Jewellery and objects, in my eyes, represent me in a form separate from my being. They show my feelings, desires, insecurities, enjoyment, love and creativity. I have defined jewellery for myself, incorporating one-off with fragility and fun, resulting in mostly non-wearable pieces, in terms of durability, material and size. Jewellery and sculpture merge into a new existence, in which the wearing of it is not important anymore to enjoy the piece.

Commissioning Procedure
Before anything happens, ideas and visions discussed in person, either in town or clients house. From then on, depending on work, time and costs can be arranged. Nothing is really fixed with me. Where there is a will, there is a way. Anything can happen and anything goes. I would just like to stress that I produce one-off pieces, and never exactly the same piece twice. I am happy to travel in and around London.

Pricing Policy
Negotiable and dependent on work done. Generally speaking, 35 pounds sterling per hour, cost of materials and travel/shipping costs. Then VAT and gallery costs are added to this. The work per hour includes design, making and anything else related directly to the piece. I prefer one-off work, generally based on my own ideas and concepts, but I am also open to other people’s ideas and visions. Costs can be discussed. I work in a range of materials from metal, paper, plastic, unusual materials, etc. The processes include jewellery making, silversmithing, drawing, painting, sculpting, photography and computer work. Some more than others.
