McMillan Glass Company Bon Accord, Kent.
We had the opportunity to takeover a leaded light company -Mill Glass, West Hampstead
The owner wanted to retire, he had sold the premises, would we make him an offer for the business and stock-
We were in business. For the next 2 years we worked long hours, had some lucky breaks made many mistakes but were able to keep our heads above water.
Bought a small kiln. Enabling us to paint on glass take on Stained glass commissions, at the same time experiment with glass fusing and moulding.
A dishonest landlord and unfortunate circumstance - we had to move quickly
Found new premises and set up a new workshop and studio
Expense, disruption and no longer had any passing trade - we had a very tough year.
A billboard became available on Clapham High Street
We took it - more work started trickling in .We held an open studio - our reputation spread and our finances improved. It has proved an invaluable step to move to a centre where there are other crafts and trades working all being able to encourage and support each other.
Helpful advice from our accountant " work on your business not just in it." Another site exhibition and a year on and we increased our turnover by 50%.
