These exceptional Artist/Craftsmen in Wood - embrace the full spectrum of woodwork: Bookbinding (some with carved wooden bound covers), Carving, Furniture Making and Designing, Joinery, Leaded Light Work, Marquetry, Upholstery, Restoration. These are just a selection of the skills and talents available, by this Master Craftsman. The skills and talents are also being passed down to the next generation of the Kerr family – in an apprenticeship to Leo Kerr (A few of the apprentice own design pieces, can be seen on display within the site).

Commissions: Replica Gun carriages for the Mary Rose Trust. Wooden bound carved books of the Orkneyinga Saga, given by the Orkney Islands Council to visiting dignitaries; the ‘Ba’ history boards and the Kirkwall City Pipe Band display cabinet. These were commissioned by the O.I.C., as were the St Magnus Cathedral ‘Communion Table’ and the display case for the ‘Royal Oak Book of Remembrance’. These are both in St Magnus Cathedral and gives Colin quiet satisfaction – it’s quite humbling to have one’s efforts housed in a Cathedral with so many centuries of history within it’s walls.

Press Quotes: Islanders too. How genius grows beside the ocean of time
Artistic talent, as inspiring as the history and rugged scenery of the islands, is thriving and multiplying on Orkney. Colin, a self-taught furniture maker. The intricacy and perfection of his carvings on chests, tables, desks cabinets & wooden book covers, are awe-inspiring.

Commissioning Procedure

Colin
It is rather difficult to explain why I make things; perhaps it’s the beauty of trees growing in the forest or solitary within a landscape and the loss of them through avarice. The designs, influenced by my disquietude at what we are doing to this planet.

Leo
To create pieces made to the most superior quality and construction. Taking the idea’s of the client to create a piece that embraces their aspirations and feelings. These commissions can harmonize to their environment and can be a timeless investment. The joy is to create a piece that can be appreciated for many generations

Pricing Policy
Prices given are only starting prices and don’t include additional work such as carvings and any other individual requirements which tailor the piece to the individuals requirements. Delivery at cost is additional.
