Alison Pickard
I am essentially interested in the texture of metal, and the spaces within the form, how such a tough medium can become fluid and tactile, and how to create strength with lightness of form.
I work mainly in steel and copper using oxyacetylene and MIG-welding, combining various cleaning an dheat techniques to create colour variations. Much of my work involves creating patterns of metal by melting individual strands into elegant structures, and then re-welding for both strenght and aesthetic value.
