Carol Naylor
I relinquished a career in lecturing in 1997 in order to freelance as a textile artist. My work has been widely exhibited in the UK and abroad and is represented in public, corporate and private collections. These include GlaxoSmithKline, Leeds LEA Welburn and Co. and Beja Municipal Collection, Portugal. I have a special interest in Art in the Healthcare Environment and Education and also give lectures, residencies and workshops.

Press Quotes: My work has been published and reviewed in specialist textile and craft magazines and books, and in local, regional and international press. This includes Craftsman (August 2005) Embroidery (2004, 2002, 2000, 1999) Correio da Manha Portugal.
Maker's Statement:
I make machine embroidered textiles, stitching directly onto painter’s canvas using a wide range of rayon, metallic, woollen and cotton threads.
Intensive, continual stitching changes the base fabric from a flat surface to one that moves and undulates with its own unique quality. This technique gives me a more painterly approach to textile art, with the sewing machine needle providing the marks a paintbrush or pencil would make, and the richly coloured threads offering a wide and exciting palette.
Studio visits are welcome.
Commissioning Procedure
I like to work from my own drawings and to visit the site prior to the design stage. I use flame retardant fabric and spray that conform to British Safety Standards.

Hangings start from £1100 50cm x 80 cm approx. Each piece is unique and cannot be reproduced. I also produce smaller works suitable for framing from £175
